The DEEP Education
Though every one is born with different ingenuities, effectiveness and productivity would not be actualized if there are no carefully designed systems and environment to facilitate creativity.
DEEP Project is embarking on an Educational Project that involves implementation of a new educational system that combines Formal Educational Curriculum with the Technical/Vocational Education and we are starting with kids who do not have the resources to continue their educational pursuit or those who failed in their high school leaver's certification exams.
The aim of the project is to start a Educational Facility Centre for empowering this set of people with vocational skills for self-sustainability and formal education for the purpose of innovations and excellent communication of their created values across Nigeria and ultimately around the world.
Educational Technology is a means we are looking to employ to productively foster learning and improve educational performance by creating, using and managing appropriate technological processes and resources
This kind of education is focused more on building the capacity of the students to make rather than making things available only.
At inception, the admitted students will learn between five and seven vocations that would be useful for equipping their environment of study as well as providing themselves with the basic resources they need. The vocational courses are:
- Fashion Design
- Leather and Shoe Design
- Carpentry/ Woodworks
- Computer Science and Education
After six months, students should be able to
- Sew their uniform themselves
- Make their bags and sandals
- Repair/Make classroom furniture
- Beautify the learning environment
The idea is geared towards helping them to solve their personal problems before making it an effort to start solving problems in their communities.
This kind of education is focused more on building the persona of the students rather than giving instructions alone.
The aim of this education is to make sure students can express themselves and communicate their created value wherever they are. We are sure that the vocational education would help instil creativity but we still need to teach them how to innovate through acquisition of knowledge.
It is also geared towards helping those who are still interested in tertiary education to pursue their dreams for a wider exposure that DEEP Project can offer . . .
The pioneer subjects to be taught are:
- English Language
- Business Studies
- Case Studies
- 3D Technology
Due to the nature of the operations of this project, most of our requirements are the disadvantages that many people see prior to disqualification.
We are looking for prospective students who are:
- Between the ages of 12-20
- Have failed to proceed to secondary or tertiary institution due to any mitigating factor
- Interested in learning a skill and not proceeding to any kind of formal institution
- Willing to solve problems through crafts
- Willing to teach others the skills they will acquire
The maximum learning period is 3.5 years which is mandatory for those who have not started or finished their secondary education. For those who have completed theirs, 2 years is the minimum they would be permitted to spend before moving on and this would be based on assessments.
